Haggling works both ways you know.. if the person starts a basing price and wants to drive it higher it's up to him, no need to scream nuuuuubbbbb or anything so benign :/. Although i personaly wouldn't buy any higher if your a good haggeler you can get those prices down with sweet talk and so on so forth.

I just usually set a firm price for whatever items I am selling. Usually ignore the "noobs" comment and sell whatever. Unless someone has a comparable trade, (or what I consider comparable) I just wait for my price. If I dont hit one day, I will get it on another. But there are just days I want to get rid of stuff and I rock bottom the price no matter what is sells for.

I'ven given up on trying to haggle when I want to buy something. A lot of the people I've come across won't haggle. They tell me the price, I make and lower offer, they don't respond. How nice; not.

There have been times where I have tried to purchse a 'set' of items from a person; agreed on a price and then they try to sell me part of the set, not the whole thing that was agreed on. My latest example, I purchased a perfect enchant wrap and perfect insightful staff head. Seller started out at 25k, bargained her down to 15k for BOTH items. (and I did specify 15k for the two) she agrees, tries selling me just the wrap. :/

More often than not I wait for someone to announcing selling 'x' for such and such price, and if its what i want and can afford i just buy it outright. I don't waste as much time anymore.

Some of you that sell items do overprice things thinking you can get away with it, for instance when GW had the green drop weekend people where selling the Ghial's Staff for 15k-20k no big deal was a good price then there comes that one get rich fast person that thinks there going to sell it for 50k those are the people that make me laugh. I wont even respond to them because I think there foolish. Why overprice a item that is selling less by 4-5 other people in the same area

Sometimes there are people that tell you to send then a tell with a offer you give it to them and they never respond to state it is to low or they have a higher bidder, most of the time I myself dont know a resonable price for some green items so how can I offer you a price that you feel in your mind is reasonable and I think is way to much, I will mainly say ty and move on.

You'd be surprised how many people pay more attention to the higher priced of the same thing. All of the "^^^ !!! ~~~~ $$$$" flahyness adds to their odds too alot of times.

I admit, I lol and ROFL @ people sometimes...but it's only when I see like a Victo's first instance being sold for 100k..... I can' help but laugh at it... everythign else is fair game though...

The thig that bugs me when selling/buying are those people who think they have the most 1337 thing in the world or are trying to buy the most 1337 in the world and they think they can sell a chitten fragment for 20k... or buy a Crystalline for 20k......

I've been on both sides and it can be annoying.
Very annoying when somebody lols and calls me a noob for wanting 800g-1k for a bleached shell instead of the 50g they are offering (since that obviously makes them the noob).
On the other hand, very annoying when I try to buy something off somebody and they don't even understand the concept of haggling.

Another funny experience

I was selling an Urgoz Shortbow, and someone offers me 50k for it.

I'm thinking, wow, i was only going to sell for 20k

So we trade, and after like 10 minutes, I see him trying to sell the same Urgoz Short I sold him for 50k.

I asked him, "Why are you reselling?"
He responds that he did not like the skin very much. Being the nice guy that I am, I offered him a refund and told him the real price of it.

He greatly thanked me and we went our seperate ways.

I vowed to never rip off the misinformed =(

Hmm the only thing i hate about people selling items is that they take advantage of new players or people who have no idea what it's worth.

The other day someone was selling a Max Dmg Scythe 14^50 (for 47k)and you can clearly tell it was a collector's item with the added inscription..... and when i told people not to buy it as it's a collector's item he started insulting me with "noob" or "LOL NUB YOU SUCK"

And TC i agree with you completely i' am the kind of person who likes to give people good deals my prices are never final.

But all i get is "Nub it's not worth *insert price here*" or no reply at all.....

I don't mind when people reply politely and say "sorry,no thanks"

Indeed, this is why haggling is dead. There are people like this on both sides who are rude. This is a game. You're supposed to have fun. Most trade attempts I've seen are not fun.

And frankly, I've always found it a bit frustrating that Anet does things to try to force participation in the economy (only 35g from the merchant for a perfect sundering +30 health green item, etc), and they've yet to impliment a better system for trade than the unending stream of WTS text. This game is in dire need of an auction system.

When I am selling I usually just list a price (Guru's usually), add "obo" (or best offer) to the end and wait. I give a base line price and I let potential buyers know I am willing to go lower with obo. Depending on my mood and the item I am selling, I'll go 20-30% off.

I think this is the best way to do it. Some people say "WTS [item] - 50k", which may or may not mean you are willing to haggle. Some people add "50k firm", which is fine as it lets people know your intentions. Adding obo clears things up. I hate when people say "Wts Item - pm offer!". Half the time people do it because they don't know the value of the item. They really should ask for a price check first. The other half are people that think their item is worth more than it really is and those are the types that say "lol" ,"noob", etc. when you do make a reasonable offer.

When buying, I generally just put "WTB [Item]". Should be on the seller to initiate the pricing I think.

I have been offered +5 enegy heads on numerous occassions for 1k each and enchant wraps for 3k. Those were cheap prices though. The prices you have sold for are reasonable.

Why does it clutter up the chat box if you post in the trade channel?

It's all part of the game. Same thing in real life, I'm sorry but I don't see anything to complain about here, unless you're complaining about real life too.

damn i hear you! I scorn the typical trading in this game, I even went into pre sear once just to dye trade (at fair prices too, and it was the most fun trading i've ever had, leaving presear after a few days with enough for 15k armour and having ripped nobody off, hell yeah!!) and make use of my skill as a trader not as a spam bot, cos frankly the economy is a big laugh. People don't seem to take to regular bartering, they generally try and insult or lie, and normally they just say 'offer', so you offer then they go NO! OMG! NOOB! and tell you a guru price (which may not even be real), which lets be honest, is a guildine not a rule, which they won't budge from, i hate to see guru abused like that. they only ever say "offer" to see if you'll rip yourself off. they think it's clever trading method, no, it's idiotic. People fail to recognise that spending Hours selling an item for 10k more is a good way to LOSE money. I dunno, trading is interacting with other people so i tend to be talkative, polite, helpful...but so often people just want to get a rip-off bargain. I see spam in droks, "selling bleh 100k+xx ecto"....it's so hideously crude, are these people or bots? I type "selling a 30hp sword pommel" same person will PM saying "2k?". RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO off and die. they probably ripped someone off now they are aiming for top dollar, real clever. shame they sound like a little kid. shame they'll be spamming for the next 5 days getting laughed at by people who know the score.

'bot' farmers will barter to good prices, and they usually have what you need, i'll give 'em that. To hell with 'real players' and their ill mannered attitudes. also, Respect to players who actually talk to me like i'm a real person not someone to be ripped off or interrogated like a machine, or traded like an NPC; no thanks, or hello, or goodbye, or anything.

Seriously, who else thinks there's more to trading than simply making virtual money?

i hate haggling, especially when i'm selling. the price is the price. i price my stuff fairly, on the low end, even, and people try to drag me down from there. if you want to haggle, go find somebody else.

stupid haggling.
